Whether you are in a quick rush to sell your home, or are just starting the process of listing it, the basics of how to stage your home won’t change. Don’t make quick, rash decisions that will completely change the look of your house (that you might regret). Instead, follow these 6 simple staging tips to ensure many interested buyers:
1.Remove personal items
It’s not that your family photos and treasured heirlooms aren’t beautiful, but a buyer will want to picture their own family living in this house, not yours. The easiest way to depersonalize your home is to take down pictures of family, pets, and personalized items and replace them with a beautiful landscape picture, hanging candles or a modern clock.
2. De-clutter, donate and consign
Pack away and box up any trinkets, gadgets or figurines that might be taking up space on countertops, bookcases or end tables. All of these things may make your house seem cluttered. As well, look through your closets, pantry and drawers and take out half of what is currently in there. This will give the appearance of a spacious home with plenty of room to spare. 3. Freshen things up
Didn’t ever get around to that kitchen remodel you were hoping to tackle? It’s ok! It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do for a room. Just make sure to use light, fresh colors that will make your rooms appear larger than they really are. Love these ideas from This Old House.
4. Lighting
Open the shades, dust off the blinds and let there be light! There is no better way to showcase your home than to bring natural light into the space. Open windows if it’s a beautiful summer day. If your house doesn’t get a lot of natural light, then invest in some beautiful lamps that will showcase the beauty of your home ( and bring attention to the newly painted walls).
5. Show off the space
Worried about your small bathroom or non-existent closet space? No need to worry. Avoid oversized furniture, appliances and accessories that contribute to the “tight” feeling of these spaces. Install a closet solution to make your clothes look organized neat. Replace the large vanity in your bathroom with a small pedestal sink that opens up the space. Hire a staging company to remove your large oversized sectional and replace it with a few side chairs and a modest loveseat.
6. Invite them home
There is honestly no better feeling than walking into a home where fresh baked cookies have just been pulled out of the oven. Any future buyer would appreciate this, we promise! This doesn’t mean that you have to actually bake them- a candle will do. However, stay away from scents that over power your home. This could have a negative affect
